Pokémon Go Has Officially Taken Over Baby Names

By now you’re probably rolling your eyes at the thought of more Pokemon Go tales, or maybe you’ve downloaded the game and joined in with the best of them, but either way, there’s a good chance you didn’t see this baby trend coming out of the latest creature-hunting craze.

According to parenting and baby website BabyCenter, parents have now taken to naming their Minis after characters from Pokemon Go. Names like Evee, Onyx and Roselia have recently climbed the charts (up as many as 5,000 spots in some cases!) in homage to the augmented reality game. Even Mini monikers like Ivy, Star and Ash are displaying a rise in popularity that hasn’t been seen since Pokemon’s original debut nearly 20 years ago.

“We see babies named after TV show characters, celebrities, and even Instagram filters,” BabyCenter’s editor in chief Linda Murray told Buzzfeed. “Millennials are particularly attracted to technology and ’90s nostalgia, which is one of the reasons we think Pokémon Go is already having an impact on baby naming trends among pregnant women.”

What do you think, Mini friends? Will your next little one be named after a gaming character? Have similar trends inspired your baby name list?
