We’ve recently shared everything from the 40 Video Game Baby Names Gamer Parents Will Love to the 50 Cottagecore Baby Names Climbing the Charts, but there is one more list we’re intrigued by and that is the baby names no one is using anymore.
These once-popular baby names have quietly become rare and we’re certain you won’t hear these on the preschool playground. Be honest, when was the last time you saw Dawsey printed on a classroom list?
Parents today are looking for “names that feel fresh and interesting and will make a child stand out from the pack,” author and baby name expert Laura Wattenberg tells Real Simple. “This list of potential names that ‘nobody’ uses is essentially infinite. Even among names that have appeared in the statistics in past years, there are more than 70,000 that are currently out of circulation.”
To compile the list, Nameberry decided to run the extended lists of baby names from the Social Security Administration—all the baby names recorded in the US ever—against the complete list of names in their own baby name database. What’s left is a list of names that were not used for any children from 1880-2022— meaning it’s an entire collection of truly unique baby names!
