Jemima Kirke Did What All New Moms Do After Birth

You may recognize Jemima Kirke from the hit HBO show “GIRLS,” but she is also a talented artist, wife, mother and women’s rights activist. She’s hilarious, smart and in an interview with Semaine (in her ultra-cool Red Hook art studio), she shares what most all new moms do after birth.

When she had her first baby, daughter Rafaella, Kirke describes herself as “young, swollen, relieved.” Sketching her pregnant figure, she goes on to explain one of the best kept secrets of new moms. “They give you this underwear to wear when you’re in hospital. It’s actually the greatest underwear in the world,” she recalls. “It’s just this gauze. And I stole some. And I still have some.”

Kirke also remembers how she looked on her first day of shooting GIRLS. “Fat,” she smirks. “I had really big boobs because I’d just had my baby six weeks before.”
