Move over, flower crowns. The latest trend in maternity photos is bedazzled baby bumps and it’s giving pregnancy a full Y2K makeover complete with gems, crystals, and rhinestones.

Bedazzled baby bumps are suddenly popping up across social media, with moms-to-be decorating their bare bellies with colorful gem stickers, rhinestones, hearts, pearls, charms, and just about anything else that sparkles. The result is a playful, unexpected, Lisa Frank-esque take on traditional maternity photos that feels equal parts early 2000s nostalgia and modern maximalism.

And considering rhinestones are currently turning up everywhere from manicures to body art, perhaps it was only a matter of time before baby bumps got the bedazzled treatment too.

What Is the Bedazzled Baby Bump Trend?

Exactly what it sounds like.

Instead of covering the belly for a traditional maternity photo shoot, pregnant moms are making the bump itself the centerpiece by applying rhinestones and other decorative gems directly to their skin.

Some go completely maximalist, applying colorful stones across the entire belly. Others create flowers, hearts, stars, swirls, initials, or more carefully planned designs. Some keep things relatively simple with a handful of crystals strategically placed around the bump. Think, celestial patterns centered around your belly button.

The trend has become popular enough that searches for rhinestone maternity shoots, bedazzled pregnant bellies, belly gems, and bedazzled baby bumps now turn up plenty of inspiration across Instagram and Pinterest.

Basically, if your Pinterest board for maternity photos has been feeling a little too beige lately, consider this the antidote.

Why Bedazzled Baby Bumps Are Suddenly Everywhere

Part of the appeal is simply that maternity photography has changed.

Much like maternity fashion itself giving more air time (literally!) to the bare bump, pregnancy photos have become more fashion-forward and personal in recent years. Rather than disappearing beneath a flowing maternity gown, the bump is increasingly becoming the entire point of the look.

And the timing couldn’t be better for rhinestones.

Y2K beauty is firmly back in the conversation, with body glitter, gems, stickers, and high-shine embellishments resurfacing in 2026. Allure recently pointed to the return of early 2000s body shimmer and rhinestone body art, while gemstone manicures have similarly taken off this year.

The idea is less clean girl minimalism and more ‘Where can I possibly add another gem?’

The bedazzled baby bump feels like a natural extension of that larger return to playful, nostalgic beauty, but with a pregnancy twist.

How to Recreate a Bedazzled Baby Bump

The beauty of this maternity photo idea is that there really aren’t any rules.

For a colorful look, mix rhinestones in different sizes, shapes, and shades and scatter them organically across the belly. Clear crystals or pearls can create something softer and more editorial, while hearts, flowers, stars, or pastel stones lean into the more whimsical side of the trend.

You could also coordinate the gems with the baby’s gender, your shower colors, or the rest of your maternity shoot. Some moms-to-be opt to share which baby they’re expecting in stickers. For example, Baby 4 in alphabet stickers makes a memorable pregnancy announcement photo!

One especially sweet way to try the trend is to let older siblings get involved. Set out a mix of self-adhesive gems and let your kids help decorate the bump for the new baby. Not only does it make the photos feel more personal, but it can also be a fun way to get big brothers and sisters excited about their new sibling. Be sure to snap a few candid photos while they’re sticking on the rhinestones. The process might end up being even cuter than the finished look!

When it comes to wardrobe, the simpler, the better. Since the bump is doing most of the work here, simplicity can actually make the rhinestones stand out more. Try an open button-down, low-rise jeans, a two piece look, or draped fabric that leaves the belly exposed. You could even photograph the look up close and skip an elaborate outfit altogether.

The point isn’t perfection. The slightly crafty, DIY quality is part of what makes the trend so charming.

Are Rhinestones Safe to Put on a Pregnant Belly?

If you’re trying the trend yourself, what you’re using to attach the gems is what to keep an eye on.

Look for self-adhesive body gems or an adhesive specifically intended for use on skin rather than reaching for craft glue. It’s also smart to test the product on a small area of skin first and skip the gems entirely if your belly is irritated, broken out, or particularly sensitive.

The Maternity Photo Trend for Moms Who Want Something Different

There will always be a place for the classic maternity shoot. But if floor-length gowns in a field aren’t quite your thing, a bedazzled bump is certainly one way to make your pregnancy photos feel like your own.

It’s colorful. It’s nostalgic. It’s a little over-the-top in the best possible way.

And twenty years from now, when your child asks why you covered your pregnant stomach in gems for a photo?

You can just tell them: It was 2026.
